Various bits and bobs to improve visuals and support narrative
With this week nearly wrapped up before Easter, today we tackled some low hanging fruit.
On the visual side, we added in and prepared some new art assets for animals. To dress up environments more, we peppered some animals around the world, including a cat in the downtown scene and a number of floating swans.
On the technical side, we hooked up audio for walking on different surfaces, providing a more immersive experience for the player. We also fixed a movement bug that allowed the player to move while engaged in a conversation, ensuring a smoother gameplay experience.
We updated the database that holds all dialogue for the game and added conditions, allowing for more dynamic conversations based on game state.
In terms of UI, we made updates to the quest heading text and layout, making it clearer and more visually appealing for players. We also began designing the Quest Journal UI, which will provide players with a helpful reference for tracking their progress and objectives.
Finally, with the office planned to hold a very important role within the story of Scared Cat, we focused on enhancing the office environment with improved lighting and decor, creating a more engaging and realistic space for players to explore. To polish things up when transitioning between areas in the game, we implemented a small feature that pauses player movement when transitioning between areas.
More updates to come soon! Our next one is going to be big.
Sincerely,
Mel
